National team

Coufal plays at right-back for the Czech national team under the Spanish coach Santi Denia. In the first Group A3 match of the Nations League, against Croatia, which the Czechs lost 1:2, he played as captain in place of Ladislav Krejčí. He was originally left out of the squad for the match against England because of health problems.[2]

In the fourth-round Group A3 match at Wembley Stadium in London on 6 October 2026 he returned to the line-up after two absences caused by injury and played with the captain's armband. England won 3:0. In the 27th minute Coufal scored an own goal after a pass from Harry Kane; Kane scored the other two goals.[1][3]

After the match Coufal said that he regretted the own goal and that England had shown very high quality. By his own account he is satisfied with the development of the national team under Denia.[1]
