Turnov is the largest town in the Semily region, although it is not the district seat. It lies in the Liberec Region.[1][2]

In the 2026 municipal elections Turnov was won by the Independent Block of mayor Tomáš Hocke, which gained four more seats than in the previous elections, that is 13 of the 27 seats on the council. The ANO movement won four seats and finished third.[1]

According to a ČTK report of 29 October 2026, the ANO movement lost all of its Turnov councillors, who will sit as non-affiliated, and the movement's local branch ceased to exist. The leader of the Turnov ANO list, Jaroslav Knížek, who ended his membership in the movement this week, explained it by saying that he does not want to be burdened by national politics. He admitted that the way the Chamber of Deputies handled the funding of Czech Television and Czech Radio also contributed to the decision.[1][2] ANO was in opposition in the town. The new town leadership has not yet been agreed; according to ČTK, the coalition is to continue in its existing form.[1]
