The Sandl wind farm is planned on the Austrian side of the Novohradské hory (Gratzen Mountains). It would have 19 masts up to 285 metres high and a maximum output of 136.8 MW. It would stand about three kilometres from the inhabited part of the village of Pohoří na Šumavě [1][2].

The project is undergoing an environmental impact assessment (EIA) with transboundary participation. The South Bohemian Region sent a negative opinion on it. Governor Martin Kuba (Naše Česko) stated in it that, according to the region, the submitted documentation does not show that the proposed solution is the most suitable in terms of landscape and nature, nor that there are no other sites with substantially smaller impacts beyond the border. Kuba also said he is not an opponent of wind turbines and does not want one state to interfere in the energy concept of another, but in his view such a large project should not stand in close proximity to Czech territory with a still preserved natural and landscape character. The region recommends examining other locations on the Austrian side, farther from the border [1][2].

Czech nature conservationists and experts, who point to negative environmental impacts, also protest against the project [1][2].
