Repairs to half of the bridge on the I/35 through-road in Liberec in the direction of Děčín have been completed. From Sunday, 1 November 2026, traffic is to run without restrictions. Traffic signs were to be gradually removed on Saturday, 31 October, so that the site would be passable on Sunday morning.[1]

Construction work began in mid-June 2026. Throughout the period, traffic remained two-way in a 1+1 regime on the other half of the four-lane road.[1][2] The bridge stands near the Sever shopping zone. Due to repairs to its lower section, the intersection beneath the bridge, nicknamed Sněhulák, was repeatedly closed at night on weekends.[2] The contract for the Road and Motorway Directorate was carried out by the company Eurovia CZ.[1]

The bridge received a new road surface, waterproofing and a modernized drainage system. Builders replaced the bridge bearings, structurally reinforced the load-bearing structure with four prestressing cables in the box girder chamber, and repaired damaged concrete structures, cracks and adjacent slopes.[1] According to a spokeswoman for Eurovia, the reconstruction also included repair of the cornices and replacement of the railings.[2]

According to the Road and Motorway Directorate, the renovation was necessary because inspections revealed the poor condition of the bridges. According to Jan Rýdl, the bridges date from 1992, and an average of 40,000 vehicles pass over the upper deck every 24 hours, of which about 5,000 are trucks, while another 20,000 vehicles pass beneath the bridges.[2]

Repairs to the second bridge, in the direction of Turnov, are to continue in spring 2027. Eurovia wants to start at the end of March, weather permitting, so that the bridge is finished at the start of the summer holidays. According to ŘSD spokeswoman Petra Drkulová, the work is scheduled to take 4.5 months and will cost 68 million crowns.[1][2]
