Kluci to vidí jinak než holky (Boys See It Differently from Girls) is an auteur comedy by the screenwriter and director David Ondříček, which loosely follows on from his second feature film Samotáři (Loners) from 2000. The film is to open in Czech cinemas on 22 October 2026. [1]
Content and treatment
The story, built like a mosaic, follows the meetings and near-misses of several people, their intimate moments and crucial decisions. [1] The plot takes place in present-day Prague and portrays seven characters who, at various stages of life, try to find out who they are and whether they have fulfilled their dreams. [2] The film combines everyday dialogue with a prominent musical track; the soundtrack was composed by the British band Rhumba Club, led by the musician and producer Tom Fall. [1][2]
Statements by the filmmakers
Ondříček said of the film: “It is a film about my friends and their children. About the fact that we often fall in love with people who simply don’t want us or can’t be with us.” [1] He added that he is returning to themes that shaped him as a filmmaker, specifically mentioning the films Šeptej (Whisper), Samotáři and, in part, Jedna ruka netleská (One Hand Can’t Clap). [1] Of the atmosphere of the present day he said: “Today’s times probably cannot be described by a single film. Still, I am trying to capture their atmosphere.” [2]
Cast and preparation
The leading roles are played by Jaroslav Plesl, Martha Issová, Václav Neužil, Denisa Barešová, Vojtěch Vodochodský, Anna Kameníková and Jan Nedbal. [1][2] According to the director, he wrote the screenplay directly for these actors and cast them without an audition, and the screenplay was further adapted during rehearsals and shooting. [1]

Before the nationwide premiere, preview screenings took place in the regions: on 6 October 2026 at the Cinestar multiplex in Hradec Králové, on 7 October 2026 at the Cinestar multiplexes in Olomouc and Ostrava, on 8 October 2026 at Cinema City Špalíček in Brno, on 12 October 2026 at the Cinestar multiplex in Plzeň and on 17 October 2026 at the Oko cinema in Šumperk.
