Petr Kellner was the founder and owner of the PPF investment group. According to the Forbes ranking of dollar billionaires, he was among the richest people in the world and in the Czech Republic held first place among domestic billionaires.[2]
Position in the wealth ranking
According to the Forbes ranking, which the magazine finalised as of 18 March, Petr Kellner placed 68th in the worldwide ranking of dollar billionaires, with a fortune estimated at 14.9 billion dollars, or approximately 373 billion korunas.[2] In this ranking he kept the position of the richest Czech for the third year in a row.[2] He was followed by other Czech billionaires, among them the owner of a real-estate group Radovan Vítek, the majority owner of Energetický a průmyslový holding Daniel Křetínský, and the then prime minister Andrej Babiš, whose fortune, according to the same ranking, fell to 3.2 billion dollars, or roughly 80 billion korunas.[2] Worldwide, the ranking was led by Amazon head Jeff Bezos with a fortune of about 113 billion dollars, followed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and the head of the LVMH group Bernard Arnault.[2] In connection with the ranking, Forbes pointed out that the fortunes of many wealthy people were affected by the then spread of the coronavirus epidemic, with the total fortune of the included billionaires falling by 700 billion dollars compared with the previous year, to roughly eight trillion dollars.[2]
Family and the purchase of a racehorse
Petr Kellner had a daughter, Anna Kellnerová, who competed in show jumping at an elite level.[1] In 2018 he bought a competition horse named Catch Me If You Can for her, and according to reports at the time he was said to have outbid Bill Gates, who was the previous owner of the mare.[1] According to information at the time, the price of the horse corresponded, when converted, to a quarter of a billion korunas, but according to a journalistic investigation there were doubts about the amount.[1] Anna Kellnerová then competed with the mare at prestigious arenas, including the Olympic Games in Tokyo.[1] In 2019, at a Global Champions League competition in Madrid, she suffered a broken thigh bone after falling from the horse, which required surgery.[1]
