Pavel Tykač is a Czech energy entrepreneur whom the media describe as a billionaire. His group Sev.en Global Investments operates in energy, mining and steelmaking.[1][2][3]
Steelmaking
According to Hospodářské noviny, Sev.en Global Investments invested in 2025 in two steelworks in the United Kingdom and Norway that make steel from scrap in electric furnaces. Libor Černý, head of the steel division, said in an interview with HN that the group wants to expand in the British market and is interested in British Steel or in one of the companies of Sanjeev Gupta's group that is in insolvency in the United Kingdom. In the Czech Republic he currently sees no suitable acquisition opportunities.[1]
Interest in an Australian operator
According to E15, Sev.en Global Investments has appeared among the interested parties for Pacific National, Australia's largest private rail freight operator, which is up for sale. E15, citing the Australian news site The Australian, reports that the group originally bid together with the logistics group Qube and that it might be interested in the operator's coal division.[2]
Chvaletice Power Station
The Energy Regulatory Office announced that Chvaletice Power Station, operated by the group Sev.en Česká energie, is not strictly necessary for the reliable operation of the electricity system. Financial support for its further operation will therefore lapse. Office chairman Jan Šefránek said that for next year this is a saving of more than a billion crowns that would otherwise be paid by consumers in regulated electricity prices. The transmission system operator ČEPS still claimed in January 2026 that two of the plant's four units needed to be kept. The power station's chief executive Václav Matys said the change in conclusions surprised him.[3]
In November 2025 the Sev.en group announced that it would end operation of its coal-fired sources in Chvaletice, Počerady and Kladno by the end of March 2027 at the latest.[3]
Money for landscape restoration
According to Deník N, in the summer the Sev.en group withdrew from talks with the state about money for restoring the landscape in the area marked by brown coal mining and began distributing money in the region itself according to its own calculation. That calculation starts from a much lower base than the one the Ministry of the Environment originally used. Minister Igor Červený (Motoristé) wants to continue talks with the group about the money; according to Deník N's findings he recently accepted its method of calculation.[4]
