Odolena Voda
Odolena Voda is a town in the Prague-East District of the Central Bohemian Region. As of 31 December 2025 it had 6,639 inhabitants.[1] It is a municipality with an authorised municipal office, whose administrative area includes Klecany, Zdiby and Líbeznice, among others.[1]*
History
The first written record of the village dates from 1352. At that time it belonged to the chapter of St Vitus at Prague Castle and had a church of St Clement.[2] After the Hussite Wars it was held for more than a century by the Old Town of Prague. In 1547 the estate was confiscated and sold to the Sekerka family of Sedčice. Jan Sekerka built a Renaissance fort here between 1556 and 1563.[2] Around 1768 the Jesuits rebuilt it into a three-wing Baroque château.[2]
Dolínek
Dolínek is part of Odolena Voda. The poet Vítězslav Hálek was born in a cottage there on 5 April 1835. In May 1900 the Hálek reading and entertainment society bought the house to save it from demolition, and a museum opened in it in 1911.[3] Dolínek is also the registered seat of the company AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE.[4]
Lead in the water (2026)
Samples taken on 24 September 2026 showed lead above the limit in water from the Odolena Voda supply area. Two of twelve samples contained 29.5 and 24.4 micrograms per litre, against a hygiene limit of 10 micrograms. The operator, Středočeské vodárny, announced that the water was not fit for drinking or cooking. The restriction covered twelve municipalities, including Odolena Voda, Klecany, Zdiby and Větrušice. Schools, kindergartens and health facilities were supplied by water tankers.[5] Police are investigating the case on suspicion of negligent damage to and endangering of the environment. One possible source of the lead is the nearby former Kasova rokle landfill.[6]
