The night inspection in Ostrava public transport took place in the night from Friday 2 to Saturday 3 October 2026 on lines in Moravská Ostrava and Vítkovice [1]. It focused mainly on the section between the stops Krajský úřad, Elektra and Dolní Vítkovice [1].

Course of the inspection

Eleven transport assistants and six municipal police officers took part in the operation [1]. In total they checked over 1,500 people on 65 services [1]. More than 200 passengers had to leave the vehicles for breaching the conditions of carriage, most often for not having a valid ticket [1].

Tereza Šnoblová, spokesperson of Dopravní podnik Ostrava, said that the assistants also recorded more than ten cases in which passengers had to get off because of disruptive behaviour under the influence of alcohol [1].

Statement by the transport company

Daniel Morys, Director General of Dopravní podnik Ostrava, said of the operation that transport assistants are on the vehicles to keep clear boundaries, and that the company wants honest passengers to feel safe and comfortable on its services [1].

According to Šnoblová, the transport company employs roughly 90 ticket inspection staff, about half of whom are ticket inspectors and the other half transport assistants [1]. According to her, the assistants do not impose fines on passengers; they watch over order, provide information and can also help with buying a ticket [1]. In her words, they have worked in Ostrava public transport for more than eight years and are on the vehicles during regular shifts as well [1].
