The modernisation of the satellite wastewater treatment plant in Vinoř is a construction project begun in September 2026 by the municipal company Pražská vodohospodářská společnost (PVS). The cost of the expansion and reconstruction of the plant on the north-eastern edge of Prague is about CZK 503 million.[1][2]*
Reason for the project
The Vinoř plant treats wastewater not only for local residents but also for a significant part of the surrounding municipalities. According to PVS it has operated at the limit of its capacity for several years, and a connection ban previously applied to it, restricting the connection of new residents and development projects.[1][2] After the reconstruction the capacity will increase from 8,923 to 16,500 population equivalents.[2][3]
Scope of work
The project includes the rehabilitation of the existing biological lines, the construction of new settling tanks, a coarse pre-treatment building, a new sludge management facility and an operations building. A new pumping station, blower house, transformer station and a control and monitoring system will also be built.[2] The work is carried out while the plant remains fully in operation and, according to Pražský deník, will take 84 weeks, followed by a one-year trial operation.[1][2] The construction is carried out by a consortium of the companies SMP Vodohospodářské stavby, ARKO TECHNOLOGY, SMP Construction and VHS stavby.[1]
Context
PVS chief executive Pavel Válek said that the construction follows the city's approved concept of removing, by 2030, the connection bans at all satellite treatment plants in Prague.[1][2] Deputy mayor Michal Hroza (TOP 09) described the coordination of the works with the construction of the section of the Prague Ring Road between Satalice and Březiněves as a challenge.[1][2] According to earlier information, PVS is also preparing the expansion of other satellite plants, for example in Březiněves, Čertousy, Kolovraty, Lochkov, Dolní Chabry and Koloděje.[1]
