US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a brief stop in Prague on Thursday 22 October 2026. The US embassy in Prague announced this on Friday 23 October, saying that his aircraft refuelled at the airport in Ruzyně. Ambassador Nicholas Merrick met Rubio there and, according to the embassy, spoke with him about relations with the Czech Republic, including shared values, trade and business ties and historical bonds.[1][2]
The embassy did not say whether Rubio met anyone else in Czechia. Novinky.cz write that it is not known that he met anyone from the Czech government, and they approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Foreign Minister Petr Macinka (Motoristé sobě) had the presentation of the Gratias Agit Awards at the Czernin Palace on his programme on Thursday, and on Friday he held talks with his Slovak counterpart, Juraj Blanár.[1][2]
Rubio has not so far been on an official visit to Czechia. He met Macinka in person in February 2026 at the first meeting of the Board of Peace, which the Czech minister attended as an observer.[1][2]
