Ivo Mitáček is a member of the assembly of the Zlín Region and of the Zlín city council, and an expert in crisis communication. He used to be spokesperson for the Police of the Czech Republic, for the fire service and for the Generální inspekce bezpečnostních sborů.[1] In an interview for the website zlin.cz on 7 October 2026 he called the Senate a lasting safeguard of democracy and stability, whose task is to judge bills in a wider context. [4]

In the Senate elections in district no. 78 Zlín he ran for STAN. In the first round on 10 October 2026 he received 22.83 per cent of the vote and advanced to the second round against the incumbent senator Tomáš Goláň (ODS), who had 33.54 per cent; six candidates competed for votes.[2] Turnout was roughly 45.49 per cent. In the second round in 2020 Goláň won 58.94 per cent and defeated the independent candidate Pavel Stodůlka. [3] Mitáček said that before the second round he wants to mobilise voters and ask some of the first-round candidates for their support.[3] He also welcomed the fact that two democratic candidates had succeeded, and said that political scientists' fears of the vote being split between strong democratic candidates had not materialised.
