Institut pro regulaci hazardních her (IPRH) is a Czech organisation that comments publicly on the regulation of gambling. Its director is Jan Řehola.[1]
Prediction platforms
In October 2026 the institute pointed out that the Ministry of Finance had added the prediction platform Kalshi to the list of unauthorised online gambling games. Internet access providers are thereby to prevent Czech users from reaching its domain. In a similar way the ministry blocked the platform Polymarket in summer 2026.[1][2]
Řehola welcomed the decision and called the listing of Polymarket an important precedent. According to him, "what should decide is not the name of the product but its real nature".[1] According to Lupa.cz, the institute said that a number of similar platforms operate on the market and that it is necessary to assess continuously whether their offer has the features of an unauthorised gambling game under Czech law. It also pointed out that new digital products cannot get around the rules on player protection, the prevention of money laundering or market supervision by using different terminology.[2]
According to data the institute published, contracts worth about USD 59.2 billion were traded on Kalshi in September 2026, about 48 percent more than in August.[2]
