Kalshi is a prediction platform based in New York. It allows users to place bets on the outcomes of events in the world, for example decisions on interest rates, temperatures, film viewership or election results.[1] Its operators describe the platform's offering as financial instruments, whereas, according to Echo24, Czech legislation regards them as gambling bets.[2]

Status in Czechia

The Ministry of Finance has placed Kalshi on the list of prohibited online gambling games, so internet providers in Czechia must block the domain kalshi.com.[1][2] The Institute for the Regulation of Gambling (IPRH) drew attention to this at the beginning of October 2026.[2] A similar platform, Polymarket, was added to the list in the summer of 2026.[1][2]

Position of the IPRH

According to Lupa, the IPRH stated that a number of similar platforms operate on the market and that it is necessary to keep assessing whether their offering meets the features of a prohibited gambling game. The institute also stated that in September 2026 contracts worth roughly USD 59.2 billion were traded on Kalshi.[1] The institute's director Jan Řehola told Echo24: “What should be decisive is not the name of the product but its actual substance.”[2]
