František Maxmilián Kaňka was an architect whose name is associated with the completion of the Jesuit complex of the Clementinum in Prague in the early 18th century. The monument catalogue of the National Heritage Institute names him as the author of the observatory tower, the chapel of the Marian Brotherhood and the east wing. The printing house in the complex was completed in the early 18th century by Pavel Ignác Bayer. [1]

According to the same catalogue, the Church of St. Clement was probably built to his plans in 1711; the builder was Antonio Lurago, and it was completed before 1715. The stonemason Domenico Antonio Rappa and the sculptor Matthias Bernard Braun also took part in completing the church. [1] Others who worked on the construction of the complex at various times include Carlo Lurago, Francesco Lurago and Giovanni Domenico Orsi. In 1928–1930 Ladislav Machoň adapted part of the complex for the needs of the National Library. [1] The decoration of the complex was created, among others, by Jan Jiří Bendl, Giovanni Bartolomeo Cometa, Kryštof Tausch and Jan Hiebel. [1]

The Church of St. Clement is a single-nave building with four bays of vaulting, the eastern one forming the presbytery. [1]
