Daniel Black has been a member of the Government Council for Human Rights since September 2026. On Monday 21 September 2026, the cabinet of Andrej Babiš (ANO) appointed seven new members to the council, Black among them [1][2].
Membership of the council
According to FORUM 24, he sits on the council on behalf of the non-profit organisation Based Initiative [3]. The council met in its reshuffled composition for the first time on Wednesday 30 September 2026 [4].
Reaction to the appointments
Human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, the Jsme fér initiative, Prague Pride, Trans*parent and Česká ženská lobby, called on Prime Minister Babiš to revoke the appointments of Black, Jakub Kříž and Taťána Kuchařová [2]. According to these organisations, Black is an advocate of banning sex reassignment surgery [2]. The appointments of the new members were also criticised by other representatives of human rights organisations and by opposition women politicians [1][3].
