Amnesty International is a human rights organisation. In September 2026 it headed a group of human rights organisations that called on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to revoke the appointment of three new members of the Government Council for Human Rights.[1][2]
The joint press release of 29 September 2026 was distributed by the Czech News Agency through Amnesty International. It was also signed by Jsme fér, Prague Pride, Trans*parent and the Czech Women's Lobby.[1] Amnesty International representative Karel Nodes said that, in his view, the appointments following the transfer of the agenda and the departure of the experts were another link in a chain of steps that weaken the Czech human rights structure. He voiced concern that Czechia is entering a path of erosion of human rights standards.[1]
