The corruption case at the Prague City Hall concerns an investigation of the Road Department, which approves traffic installations and construction and decides on applications related to project documentation, for example road closures. Police officers acted in the City Hall building in the Škoda Palace in the second half of July 2026 [1]. In connection with the operation, six people, among them two City Hall officials, and two companies were charged [1].*

The charges and the roles of the accused

According to investigators, the accused acted as an organised criminal group with a clearly defined structure and divided roles [1]. As co-perpetrators they are accused of participating in an organised criminal group, abuse of power and accepting bribes, as well as unauthorised business activity and legalisation of proceeds of crime [1]. After the City Hall operation, police seized property worth tens of millions of crowns belonging to the accused [1].

The former head of the department and his deputy

Among the accused were the then head of the Road Department Aleš Krejča and his deputy Jan Krejčí [1]. Police charged Krejča with secretly taking part in preparing project documentation for the company Dopravní inženýring Praha, owned by his brother and his life partner [1]. Companies applying for road closures submitted this documentation to Krejča's department for approval [1]. Over the past ten years the design firm had total revenues of roughly 250 million crowns and is registered at a virtual address in Prague's Smíchov [1]. According to investigators, Krejčí committed similar acts on a smaller scale, allegedly using a friend's company [1].

End of employment

Since the raid both officials had been on so-called obstacles to work, that is, they did not go to work but received their salary [1]. Aleš Krejča's employment at City Hall ended on 13 August 2026, Jan Krejčí's on 14 September 2026 [1]. In Krejčí's case the obstacles to work on the employer's side lasted until 31 August 2026, after which he took unused leave [1]. Neither man commented on the matter to journalists [1].

The city flat

The server Český rozhlas Radiožurnál earlier reported that Krejča also used a city flat although he actually lived with his partner in a family villa [1]. City Hall looked into the matter, but according to City Hall spokesman Vít Hofman the inquiry was closed as pointless [1]. The lease between Krejča and the City of Prague was terminated by agreement as of 31 August 2026 and the flat was formally handed over on the same date [1].
