The Liberecký tunel on the I/35 road in Liberec is to undergo regular preventive maintenance and an inspection of its technological systems, which will require a gradual full closure of the individual tubes. The work is to be carried out by the company EUROVIA CZ for the Road and Motorway Directorate [1][2].
Closure schedule
The restrictions are to begin on Friday, 9 October 2026 at 18:00 and end on Monday, 12 October 2026 at 4:00 [1]. In the first stage, from Friday 9 October at 18:00 to Saturday 10 October at 16:00, the tube in the direction from Prague to Děčín is to be closed, and traffic in both directions is to be routed through the opposite tube [1][2]. From Saturday 10 October at 16:00 to Monday 12 October at 4:00 the closure is to move to the second tube, in the direction from Děčín to Prague [1][2]. While work is under way in the individual tubes, traffic is to be run in a 1+1 arrangement, that is, one lane in each direction [1][2].
Reason and scope of the work
According to the sources, maintenance of the tunnel is carried out routinely twice a year [1][2]. Iveta Štočková, press spokesperson of the VINCI Construction CS Group, of which EUROVIA CZ is part, said that the maintenance is to include "in particular cleaning of the road surface, washing of the tunnel walls and ceilings, cleaning of the drainage, inspection and maintenance of lighting and traffic signs, and other diagnostic work", and that the inspection is also to include "verifying the functionality of the tunnel's safety and technological systems" [1][2]. According to Deník, it is not a response to an accident or an emergency [1]. According to Liberecká Drbna, drivers passing through Liberec should expect queues and delays [2].
