According to Norwegian media, Norwegian police announced on 31 October 2026 that a body found in Norwegian waters before that date belongs to one of three Czechs missing after a fishing boat accident in western Norway. According to the police, relatives in the Czech Republic have been notified.[1][3]
The accident and the search
A group of four Czechs set out to sea from the island of Averøy on 18 September 2026. When the boat did not return at the agreed time, a large-scale search began with the participation of a helicopter. Rescuers found one body already during the initial search, and the search for the remaining three men continued. The police ended the search operation at the beginning of October 2026, saying that they assume the remaining three Czechs also died.[1][2][3] What happened after the boat set out remains unclear.[1][3]
The find
According to iDNES.cz, the man was found near the municipality of Vestvågøy in the Lofoten islands, more than 600 kilometres north of the site of the accident. Espen Andrésen, operations commander of the Møre og Romsdal police, said that two people remain missing and that the police will not take any further steps unless new facts emerge.[2]
The find was confirmed to the Czech News Agency by Foreign Ministry spokesman Adam Čörgő. According to him, the Czech consul in Oslo is cooperating with the local police and standard consular procedures are under way.[1]
