The Bílina is a river in the Ústí nad Labem Region. It flows into the Elbe from the left; besides the Ohře, it is a significant left-bank tributary of the Elbe in the territory of the region.[1] The confluence is located within the territory of the city of Ústí nad Labem.[2]
The valley of the Bílina and the Elbe has been settled since the last Ice Age.[3] At Stadice near Ústí nad Labem, a site of mammoth hunters was discovered in 1987 on the slope of Rovný hill above the river; according to the city, it is the richest site of its kind in Bohemia.[3] In the 1980s, because of coal mining, the Bílina between Most and Chomutov was diverted into four pipes, which carry it for about three kilometres. [4]
Povodí Ohře is building a new open channel 4.7 kilometres long, with meanders and pools, in the Ervěnický koridor; the conversion will cost approximately 137 million crowns. [4]
Completion of the new channel is planned for autumn 2028. [4]
