In the local elections in Vsetín on 10 October 2026, the new VS21 movement won more than 40 percent of the vote after 96 percent of votes had been counted. The list Vsetín with Heart and Reason, put together by People’s Party members with independents and led by the incumbent mayor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL), came second with about 16 percent.[1][2] Nine groups stood in the town.[2]

Čunek said the result surprised him and that he would not seek any post in the town’s leadership. In his view, coalition talks are a matter for the winner.[2] He told Novinky that he would devote more time to his role as senator.[1] Čunek led Vsetín, with interruptions, for sixteen years: from the end of 1998 to 2007, from December 2014 to 2017, and most recently from the 2022 elections.[1]

ANO came third with 12.63 percent of the vote and three mandates; its list leader was deputy mayor Petr Kudlík. In 2022 ANO won with 20.06 percent and five mandates, with the People’s Party second at 16.94 percent and four mandates. ANO then formed a coalition with the People’s Party, the Non-partisans, ODS and the grouping PRO-pořádek-rozvoj-odpovědnost Vsetín, but Čunek became mayor.[2]
