Týn nad Vltavou
Týn nad Vltavou is a town in the České Budějovice District of the South Bohemian Region.[2] It lies on both banks of the Vltava near its confluence with the Lužnice.[1] As of 31 December 2025 it had 7,728 inhabitants.[2]*
History
Týn is one of the oldest settlements in South Bohemia. Its beginnings go back to the first half of the 11th century, when the area was owned by the Prague diocese. In the first half of the 13th century a castle was founded on the site of the original administrative residence; it was abandoned at the end of the 17th century.[1] The first written accounts of the town date from 1229 and mention, among other things, a wooden bridge.[1] Until the early 20th century Týn was a centre of timber rafting.[1]
Museum and surroundings
The Týn nad Vltavou Town Museum occupies the listed château building on Míru Square. Its permanent exhibitions cover the history of the Vltava, South Bohemian moldavites, the puppet world of Matěj Kopecký and Alfréd Radok. Its moldavite exhibition is the largest in Bohemia.[3] The Temelín Nuclear Power Station lies about 5 km from the town.[4]
