Stichovský rybník was a historic fishpond in the area of today's Plumlovská přehrada in the Prostějov area. Together with the Zlechovský rybník, it stood here before the reservoir was built, and their history goes back several centuries.[1][2]
The dam of the lower-lying Stichovský rybník served as the foundation of the present dam of the reservoir.[1][2] The dam of the Zlechovský rybník stayed under water after the reservoir was filled.[1] The exposed stone dam allowed visitors, hikers and cyclists alike, to cross almost the entire width of the reservoir. [1] It is a medieval dam that rises above the surface only when the reservoir is substantially drawn down, for example for repairs, or during extreme drought, and in 2026 it was uncovered by a drop in the water level caused by drought. [2] At the end of September 2026, the water level of the reservoir stood at around 270.5 metres above sea level, almost three metres below the level of the storage volume, whose maximum retention level is 277.58 metres. [1] According to Deník, the reservoir was completed in the 1930s.[2] The reservoir was drained at the end of 2009 for cleaning of the bottom and repair of the dam, and in autumn 2013, once construction work was finished, it began to be filled again; Povodí Moravy invested roughly CZK 270 million in the work. [1] The Plumlov waterworks serves to reduce flood flows and to raise the lowest flows of the Hloučela stream in dry periods; after the bottom was cleaned and the dam repaired, the water quality in the reservoir improved.
