The repair of a one-kilometre section of the four-lane ring road in Hradec Králové, known as the Gočár Ring Road, between the bridge over the Orlice and the Brněnská roundabout, took two and a half months and was completed on the night of 6 October 2026, when the traffic restrictions associated with the construction also ended.[3]

Course of the works

Contractors divided the repair, costing 40.5 million korunas excluding VAT, into two stages.[3] The first stage took place from mid-July to the end of August 2026 and concerned the right-hand traffic lanes, including the ramps onto the Malšovice overpass, which complicated the route from the ring road into the city centre and to Malšovice via detours.[3] Throughout the construction, passing cars used only two lanes instead of the usual four.[3] A spokesperson for the project stated that the road had many cracks, bumps and worn ruts, and that the contractors replaced the road surface, removed the raised shoulders and restored the horizontal and vertical traffic markings.[3]

Related bridge repair

Traffic between the centre of Hradec Králové and the ring road has, since mid-July 2026, also been complicated by a separate repair of the Malšovice Bridge over the Orlice, which dates from 1935.[3] Traffic on the bridge is being managed by alternating one-way flow controlled by traffic lights.[3] According to published information, the bridge repair, costing nearly eight million korunas excluding tax, is expected to last until roughly mid-November 2026.[3]
