Police have opened criminal proceedings on suspicion of extortion in connection with an incident from 7 October 2022 on the D6 motorway heading from Karlovy Vary to Sokolov. According to findings by CNN Prima News, picked up by the Echo24 server, investigators returned to the case following a recent attack on a female driver on the same motorway.[1][2]

According to the original description, the driver of a Volkswagen Transporter van repeatedly forced a Citroën Berlingo passenger car out of its lane, forced its driver to stop in the emergency lane, and parked the van right in front of it. He then allegedly verbally attacked the occupants. The incident was initially handled as a misdemeanor and, according to CNN Prima News, was shelved for lack of evidence. Criminal proceedings were opened by Sokolov investigators on 27 October 2026, said Jakub Kopřiva, spokesman for the Karlovy Vary regional police. Petr Havlíček, public prosecutor at the Sokolov District Public Prosecutor's Office, said he was leaning toward classifying the act as dangerous threatening, and would decide after the police had investigated the matter. Besides the driver, three other people were traveling in the Citroën, and the conduct allegedly caused the occupants reasonable fear for their life and health. During the investigation, police are also considering the possibility that the suspect may have used the motor vehicle as a weapon.
