Radoslav Kováč is the coach of the Viktoria Plzeň football team. According to the Czech News Agency, he took over the team after the club's management made a coaching change.[1] At the end of August 2026 he replaced the dismissed Martin Hyský after the team's poor start to the season.[3] In his first match on the Viktoria bench, the return leg of the Europa League fourth qualifying round, Plzeň beat Crvena zvezda of Belgrade 5:1 after extra time.[1][2] In the first leg of this round in Serbia, Plzeň, still under Hyský, had lost 0:3.[2]

In the main phase of the Europa League, Plzeň lost at home to Union Saint-Gilloise 0:3.[1] In the second round it played Ferencváros in Budapest on Thursday 15 October 2026 and lost 1:2. It was goalless at half-time, shortly after the restart Plzeň conceded after a mistake in build-up play, and in the 81st minute from a penalty.[3] After the match Kováč said that the team had again offered the opponent goals through its own mistakes.[3] The next league match was to be played on Sunday 18 October 2026 in Jablonec nad Nisou.[3] Plzeň has lost four of its last five competitive matches.[3] Veljko Birmančević, a former player of Sparta Prague, was in Ferencváros's starting line-up for the first time and was involved in both goals, first providing the pass and then winning the penalty.[3]

In the Czech league, before this match, Plzeň beat Mladá Boleslav 3:0 and was tenth in the table.[1] Stefan Pirgič scored his first goal in the Czech league in that match.[5] Christophe Kabongo scored in the second minute of the match against Mladá Boleslav on 10 October 2026.[4]
