The first performance of Divadlo na Vinohradech in the Radiopalác, announced for 24 October 2026, has been postponed indefinitely. According to the theatre's spokeswoman Zuzana Paulusová, the final approval of the basement hall, which is tied to strict fire-safety regulations, has not yet been completed. The authorities concerned may respond to the application within 30 days, and the theatre cannot yet estimate when it will start performing.[1][2]

Plan after the postponement

Actors are to resume rehearsing productions from the historic building, the first being Balada pro banditu. The theatre had originally announced The Mousetrap as the first production, which, according to the spokeswoman, may change. Once the approval is completed and a date is set, the theatre intends to launch an information campaign.[1][2]

Reason for the move

The company gave its last performance in the building on Náměstí Míru on 19 June 2026, after which individual departments gradually began moving to the Radiopalác. The reason is a complete reconstruction of the building dating from 1907, costing CZK 1.66 billion excluding VAT. The theatre is a contributory organisation of Prague City Hall, which organises the reconstruction; the work is to be carried out by the consortium GG AVERS Divadlo.[1][2]
