Investigation by the Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže

The Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže (ÚOHS) announced in a press release on 6 October 2026 that it had carried out an unannounced on-site inspection at one beer producer, whose name it did not disclose. The reason was suspicion of a possible abuse of a dominant position in the sale of beer to restaurants, pubs and other food-service establishments (on trade). The office noted that the inspection itself does not mean that unlawful conduct occurred, nor that administrative proceedings will be opened or a penalty imposed.[1][2]

In response to a query from the Czech News Agency, Plzeňský Prazdroj confirmed that the inspection had taken place at its premises. According to Hospodářské noviny, it took place in the preceding weeks. Kovář stated that the company had provided the office with full cooperation during the inspection, but that it has doubts about the lawfulness and proportionality of the procedure and intends to use legal means to protect its rights. He said no further details could be commented on while the inspection is ongoing.[1][2]
