The repair of the line from Kostelec to Slavonice in the Vysočina Region is to begin in 2028, according to iDNES.cz of 27 October 2026. The selected company is to complete the design of some construction objects on the 53-kilometre regional line and then rebuild the sections between stations, including bridges and culverts in unsatisfactory condition, adjust level crossings and platforms and build a new stop, Slavonice škola. Replacement roads will be built for the abolished level crossings.[1]

The second and third stages are planned for 2029 to 2031 and include modernisation of stations, electrification of the entire line and the uniform European train protection system. Správa železnic, according to spokesman David Kabele, is working on optimising the project with the aim of reducing the total costs of all stages by about 40 percent. After completion the journey is to be shortened by up to 27 minutes and the safety of operation increased; the remaining level crossings will have warning signalling. The Vysočina Region has long counted on the reconstruction and has ordered new electric units for the line.[1]
