On 28 September 2026 Agriculture Minister Martin Šebestyán said that the ministry wants to set aside roughly 3.5 billion Czech crowns as compensation to farmers for losses caused by drought, high input prices and low commodity prices.

The Ministry of Agriculture wants to devote approximately 3.5 billion Czech crowns to compensation for farmers. Agriculture Minister Martin Šebestyán announced this in Brussels on 28 September 2026. [1][2]
Reasons
Šebestyán said that the drought of 2026, expensive inputs and cheaper prices for some commodities are causing farmers in parts of Czechia high losses. In his words, both crop and livestock farming are affected, and revenue has fallen in places by tens of percent. He named fuel and fertiliser prices and the consequences of the drought as the main problems. [1][2] He also mentioned a shortage of feed and a sharp year-on-year fall in the prices of milk, pork and other commodities. [1][2]
Package of measures
The ministry has drawn up several compensation measures, which it wants to submit to the government in October 2026. [1][2] According to the minister, Czechia received about 10.7 million euros, or 260.5 million Czech crowns, from EU funds for basic support. The main part of the compensation, roughly 3.5 billion, is to come from the Czech budget. [1][2]
