Petr Prokop (STAN) is the incumbent statutory deputy mayor of the Prague 6 borough, who is expected to become its mayor after the 2026 municipal elections, succeeding Jakub Stárek (ODS).[1][2]
2026 elections
In the election to the Prague 6 council, STAN won 24.32 per cent of the vote and 12 of 45 seats. The Praha 6 sobě list and the coalition of ODS and KDU-ČSL each won ten seats.[1][3] Jan Lacina (STAN), a member of the outgoing board, announced on the social network X that the coalition of STAN, ODS, KDU-ČSL and Praha 6 sobě would continue with the support of the Greens and that Prokop would become mayor. The Czech News Agency confirmed the report; the allocation of seats on the board still has to be approved by the council groups.[2] According to Lacina, he and Prokop were the only candidates to receive more than 10,000 votes.[2] Prokop said he believed in a stable coalition that would build on the previous work of the board.[3]
Political career
From 2018 to 2022 he chaired the borough's culture commission; after the 2022 elections he became statutory deputy mayor, responsible for property management, economic policy and the strategic plan.[1][3]
Career outside politics
Before entering politics, Prokop worked in culture, theatre and cultural management. He is a founding member, producer and actor of the Divadlo Vosto5 theatre, which has been active since 1996. He studied International Area Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University and then production at DAMU, where he taught from 2008 to 2023 and for several years served as vice-dean. In 2019 he was involved in founding the Vzlet cultural centre in Vršovice, which he headed until 2022.[1]
