Petr Kubis (ANO) is the governor of the Karlovy Vary Region.

In October 2026, together with representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, he signed a contract on the transfer of Letiště Karlovy Vary to the state. From 1 January 2027 the operator is to be the state enterprise LOM Praha, civilian operations are to be maintained and the airport is also to serve the army. The transfer was approved by the regional councillors and still has to be approved by the government and the Ministry of Finance. The value of the transferred property is CZK 1.361 billion. Kubis said that the state will take over the financing of the runway modernisation, worth roughly two billion crowns, and the region will no longer have to subsidise the operation of the airport.

On 25 October 2026 Prime Minister Andrej Babiš announced that the army will get a drone-testing range near Nové Sedlo. Progress in its preparation came after talks with the army, Sokolovská uhelná and Governor Kubis. Babiš also said that after talks with Kubis and the director of the Road and Motorway Directorate, Radek Mátl, the variant of a short northern bypass of Karlovy Vary was chosen instead of a tunnel. Kubis said that the region must amend the Principles of Spatial Development and begin buying up land, and that he will demand the opinion of Minister of Transport Ivan Bednárik.
