Petr Czudek is a former basketball player and basketball coach from Opava. In the 2026 municipal elections he led the candidate list of OK Změna pro Opavu as a non-party candidate.[1]
As a player he won four Czech titles with Opava, in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2003. He won the title seven times in all, the other three being in the seasons 1994 to 1996 with Brno. He ended his playing career in May 2009. In the 1990s he played for the Czech national team, including in qualifying for EuroBasket 1997, and in 1997 he was named Czech basketball player of the year. He was selected three times for the All-Stars of the Czech basketball league.[1] After his playing career he first coached the B team of BK Opava and in 2012 became head coach of the A team.[1]
He sat on the Opava city council from 2010 to 2018. He was first elected as a non-party candidate on the ODS list and in 2014 already as an ODS member.[1]
In the 2026 municipal elections OK Změna pro Opavu won 28.62% of the vote and 13 of 39 seats, which meant second place behind the ANO movement with 17 seats.[3] Czudek called second place a success and said that the decisive step would be forming a coalition that would bring change to city hall.[3] On 14 October 2026 he said he could not imagine the city being run by all the elected groups together, and named as a possible option a coalition of OK Změna pro Opavu, ODS with independents, Zelená pro Opavu and Občané městských částí Opavy.[4]
On 21 October 2026 the leaders of ODS and Zelená pro Opavu said that city hall should be led by a coalition of OK Změna pro Opavu, ODS and Zelená pro Opavu and that Czudek should be mayor. They intend to sign the coalition agreement in the following week and are to agree the programme and the distribution of other posts by then.[1][2] The incumbent mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO) said that only two different memoranda had been signed and that talks were continuing.[1]
