Petr Čech is a former goalkeeper of the Czech Republic national football team. According to the Czech News Agency, he holds the record for appearances for the Czech national team. At club level he played in goal for Sparta, Rennes, Chelsea and Arsenal.[1]
Comments on the national team goalkeepers
At a meeting of the League Goalkeepers' Club in Prague, Čech said he was pleased by the quality of the goalkeeping position in the current national team. In the opening Nations League match against Croatia, any of the three evenly matched goalkeepers could play, in his view: Kovář, Horníček and Kinský. According to Čech, continuity probably speaks in favour of Matěj Kovář, because he managed the World Cup play-off and also played at the tournament itself. At the same time he pointed out that the coaches will decide on the basis of performances in training and that all three goalkeepers play with their feet like outfield players. According to Čech, national team coach Santi Denia is the first foreign coach of the Czech national team.[1]
Milan Baroš's farewell match
On 26 September 2026 Čech took part in Ostrava in the farewell match of footballer Milan Baroš. In his statements he described Baroš as a team player and said that he himself had had no similar farewell, because according to him it was not the right time for one.[2][3]
