Penny Market in Czechia has been run since 1 October 2026 by Mathias Mentrop, who replaced Draško Lazović.

Since 1 October 2026 the Czech branch of the Penny Market retail chain has been led by chief executive Mathias Mentrop. He replaced Draško Lazović, who, according to the company, will work in the REWE Group in Germany.[1][2]
Mentrop's career at the company
Mentrop returned to Czechia after more than three years during which he ran the Hungarian branch of Penny. He has been linked to the Czech company since 2015, when he joined as head of the sales department; in 2018 he became operations director. During that period the company passed 400 stores in Czechia.[1]
On his return he said that three years in Hungary had given him new experience and that he wanted to use it together with the Czech team.[1]
The company's intentions
According to the company, appointing a manager from within the REWE group is meant to ensure continuity of development. Penny wants to continue expanding its store network, modernising it and working with local suppliers.[1]
Figures from the published financial statements
At the end of 2025 Penny Market had 439 stores in Czechia. The company's net profit for 2025 was roughly CZK 1.2 billion and its revenue about CZK 64.9 billion. The average adjusted number of employees was 6,706. The figures are based on the financial statements in the Collection of Documents, as reported by the Czech News Agency.[2]
