Since 15 December 2022 he has been rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín (UTB), the fourth in its history.[3] In September 2026 the academic senate elected him as its candidate for a second term.[4][5]*

Education and academic career

He completed a master's degree in experimental physics at the Faculty of Science of Palacký University Olomouc and later studied informatics.[1] He completed doctoral studies in technical cybernetics at the UTB Faculty of Technology.[3] In the late 1990s he began teaching at the Faculty of Technology in Zlín, which then belonged to the Brno University of Technology.[1][2] He obtained his habilitation in 2008 and was appointed professor in 2022.[3]

After the Faculty of Applied Informatics (FAI) was established in 2006 he became its vice-dean.[3] From 2010 he headed the newly founded Department of Security Engineering.[1] From 2014 to 2022 he served two terms as dean of FAI.[1][3] According to Zlínský deník, he took part in building the ICT Science and Technology Park and the CEBIA-Tech research centre.[3]

Rector

The UTB academic senate elected him as candidate for rector on 20 September 2022. He received 28 of 36 votes, while the incumbent rector Vladimír Sedlařík received 8.[2][3] President Miloš Zeman appointed him rector on 9 November 2022 at Prague Castle with effect from 15 December.[1][2] He took the rector's oath at a formal inauguration on 28 March 2023, receiving the rector's sceptre and chain from Sedlařík.[3] Among the main investments of his first term he named a new building for the Faculty of Technology and a university sports complex.[1]

On 29 September 2026 the academic senate again elected him by secret ballot as candidate for rector. The vice-deans David Tuček and Roman Čermák also ran. Adámek won in the third round with 20 of 38 votes.[4][5] The rector is appointed by the President of the Republic, and the second four-year term is due to begin on 15 December 2026. A rector may lead the university for at most two consecutive terms.[4] His programme includes digitalising the university's internal processes, building a development centre for digitalisation and increasing the number of international students.[4][5] The university, founded in 2001, had six faculties and almost 10,000 students in 2026.[4]
