Místopisná komise Rady hlavního města Prahy is an advisory body that discusses proposals for naming streets and other public spaces. It recommends approved proposals to the Prague City Council.[1]

According to a press release of the municipal district Prague 5 of 25 August 2022, the commission approved and recommended to the Council a proposal for naming streets, parks and a school in the new quarter Smíchov City, which is being built by the company Sekyra Group. Construction on former railway land has been under way since 2020, and once it is complete almost 400,000 m² of residential, office, retail and public space is to be created there. [1] The proposal was submitted by the leadership of Prague 5, Sekyra Foundation and the Václav Havel Library, and the municipal district passed it on to the commission. The quarter's main pedestrian boulevard is to bear the name of Madeleine Albright Avenue.[1]

The proposal concerns the naming of six streets, two parks and a school. [1] Meda Mládková Street is to lead into the main boulevard, other streets are to bear the names of Jiřina Šiklová and the painter Toyen, and the parks the names of Hannah Arendt and of Alice and Anna Masaryková. [1] The names are meant to commemorate women who in the 20th and 21st centuries contributed to the fight against totalitarianism, whereas fewer than five percent of Prague's streets are named after women. [1]

According to the proposal, the school in the quarter is also to bear Albright's name, and the parallel main street is to be named after Růžena Vacková. [1]
