Mánes Gardens is a park in Ústí nad Labem that has been part of the city for more than a hundred years. It serves residents of the surrounding buildings and students. Some of its densely overgrown corners attracted homeless people and drug users in the past; pruning of the vegetation and new lighting are meant to improve visibility and safety of the space.[1]

According to the original plans, the gardens are to get a barrier-free network of paths, lighting and furniture. A children's playground with interactive elements, sports grounds for football and basketball, fitness equipment and a fenced dog area are to be built there, and public toilets and a drinking fountain are to be added. Landscaping is part of the project.[1]

During the reconstruction the network of paths is being completed, installation of public lighting is prepared and the dog park is almost finished. The foundations of the sports ground, the fitness equipment and the children's playground are done. A bust of the painter Ernst Gustav Doerell, who was born in 1832 in Freiberg in Saxony, lived in Ústí nad Labem from 1859 and died there in 1877, has been completed. Part of the greenery is to be planted in 2026, with further planting probably moved to spring.[1]

The completion date was extended. The causes were additional works: more extensive interventions in trees following an arborist assessment, remediation of the subgrade, adjustment of the thickness of the concrete base for a water connection, and measures at public lighting poles. The cost of the modifications rose by roughly two million crowns to just under 43.1 million crowns. The city is to receive a subsidy of roughly 30 million crowns, which will be paid retroactively, and it does not yet have the money available. The park is to open once the work is finished, at the latest when the new deadline expires.[1]
