Korunní komora is a room in St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle, in which the Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept long-term.[1][2] They consist of the Crown of Saint Wenceslas, the royal sceptre and orb, their leather cases, the cushion under the crown, and the coronation mantle with accessories.[1]
Key holders
The jewels can be taken out of the chamber only when all seven key holders come together. They are the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the chairs of the Senate of the Czech Republic and of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Archbishop of Prague, the Mayor of Prague and the Dean of the Metropolitan Chapter of St Vitus.[1][2]
Exhibiting the jewels
President Petr Pavel decided in 2024 that the jewels would be exhibited every year around the state holiday of Saint Wenceslas, that is, 28 September.[1][2] In 2026 they were on display at Prague Castle from 15 to 28 September under the subtitle Habsburgs 500, and roughly 36,600 people saw them, which is fewer than last year, when more than 51,500 visitors came.[2] After the exhibition ended, the seven key holders placed the jewels back in Korunní komora.[2]
