Josef Kořenář is the goalkeeper of HC Sparta Praha. In round 10 of the ice hockey extraliga on 11 October 2026, Sparta beat HC Vítkovice Ridera 3:0 at the O2 Arena in Prague [1][3]. The goals were scored by Martin Špaček in the 6th minute, Pavel Kousal in the 11th and Vojtěch Hradec in the 55th minute. With this goal Kousal recorded his 100th goal in his extraliga career. [1] The match was watched by 10,759 spectators. [4] Kořenář recorded his first clean sheet of the season in the match [1][3]. At the start of the third period Kořenář withstood Vítkovice's fifth power play, and in the 47th minute he stopped a shot by Jindřich Abdul. [1] The Prague side won at home only for the second time in the season and led 2:0 after the first period. [4] Vítkovice suffered their fourth defeat in a row. [1]

Ladislav Šmíd of Sparta said after the match that Kořenář had put in an excellent performance and made saves at decisive moments [1][2]. After the match Kořenář said it was "about time" for a win and expressed his conviction that he can give the team confidence. [4]

Hradec thus scored for the first time in a Sparta jersey; he joined Sparta in the week before the match from Mladá Boleslav, from where Tomáš Hyka went in the opposite direction. [4]
