Jiří Tieftrunk (died 27 September 2026) was a Czech music journalist and long-time contributor to Czech Radio Ostrava. Listeners knew him above all as the author of the programme Oldies aneb Historie z černých drážek (Oldies, or History from the Black Grooves).[1][2]*
Life and work
He graduated from a railway technical secondary school and worked as a signalling foreman maintaining railway safety equipment. He devoted himself systematically to the history of foreign and Czech popular music.[1] In the first half of the 1990s he contributed externally to a private radio station.[1] From 1997 he worked with Czech Radio Ostrava as an oldies specialist. He took over the half-hour programme Byly hity tu ty, later changed its name and signature tune and extended it to as much as 56 minutes.[1][2] The programme Oldies aneb Historie z černých drážek presented well-known hits as well as lesser-known recordings from the history of rock and pop. Over the last two decades it was broadcast by all regional stations of Czech Radio.[2] For the radio he also compiled music calendars and historical overviews and identified and collected old recordings.[1][2]
Death
He died after a long illness on Sunday 27 September 2026 at the age of 75. His death was announced by his son and then by Czech Radio Ostrava.[1][2] The station's director Josef Podstata praised his knowledge of foreign and Czech music of the 1950s to the 1970s.[2]
