The governor of the South Moravian Region and KDU-ČSL chair Jan Grolich, according to calculations, won the first round of the Senate election in the Vyškov electoral district. According to interim results he received almost 61 percent of the votes and the ANO candidate around 31 percent, and she is no longer expected to overtake him. Brněnská Drbna reported this on 10 October 2026.[1]

Grolich has been governor of the South Moravian Region since 2020 and a regional councillor since 2016, and in April 2026 he was elected chair of KDU-ČSL. He described the result as unbelievable. He had earlier named certain transport construction projects as his priority and also wants to help mayors in the region with their projects.[1]

According to Brněnská Drbna, Grolich wants to try combining the offices of governor and senator and expects the support of KDU-ČSL for it. He is counting on running for the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and so, in his words, it is possible that he will be a senator only until then.[1]

In other South Moravian districts the outcome was still open at the time of the report. In the Znojmo area roughly 82 percent of polling districts had been counted and Tomáš Třetina (TOP 09) led with 34.73 percent of the votes. In the Brno-City district Zdeněk Papoušek (ODS) led with 41.07 percent of the votes, with around ten percent counted. The second round of the Senate election was to be held on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October.[1]
