Husinecká přehrada, also called Husinecká nádrž, is a reservoir on the Blanice river near the town of Husinec in the Prachatice area of the South Bohemian Region.[1] It is managed by the state enterprise Povodí Vltavy.[1][2] The waterwork was built between 1934 and 1939 about three kilometres above the town of Husinec, and a small hydroelectric plant was added below the dam between 1950 and 1954. [3]

Dam and reservoir

The dam is a masonry structure 197 metres long. Its crest lies 27.20 metres above the valley and carries the road linking Husinec with Prachatice. The reservoir is 3.5 kilometres long and covers 61 hectares.[1] Since 1962 the reservoir has also served as a water source for the treatment plant supplying the town of Prachatice. [3]

The storage volume of the reservoir exceeds two million cubic metres of water. Above it lies the permanent pool, in which water is held all the time.[1] Among other things, the reservoir serves to improve the flow of the Blanice.[1][2] During a lack of rainfall, the water level dropped on 8 October 2026 to the minimum operating level of 515.33 metres above sea level, seven metres below the usual level, and the storage volume was exhausted.
