From Růžová hora, tourists could continue to the summit on foot along a route 2.5 kilometres long. The head of operations of the cable car, Jiří Špetla, described the situation on the mountain with the words “It's the end of the world up there” and recommended using crampons when climbing because of the icy terrain.[1][2][3]
Surroundings and forecast
The weather did not restrict the operation of the other cable cars in the eastern Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) in the morning. SkiResort Černá hora – Pec pod Sněžkou announced that, because of the weather, it was closing the Kabinka children's park on Černá hora, the Monkey Park rope centre in Pec pod Sněžkou and the rental shops on Černá hora, in Pec pod Sněžkou, in Velká Úpa and at Portášky.[1][2][3]
The weather in Czechia was affected by a pronounced frontal system. Meteorologists expected afternoon temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees Celsius, up to plus two in the mountains, and wind of around 90 km/h in the mountains, which was to weaken partly in the evening. Above 1,100 metres snow showers were expected in places.[1][2][3] The climate on Sněžka, which is 1,603 metres high, is according to reports Arctic and high-mountain, and often does not reflect the weather in the whole of the Giant Mountains.[1][2][3]
