Hodkovice nad Mohelkou is a town in the Liberec area of the Liberec Region.[1][2] A grade-separated junction near the town connects Hodkovice and the Českodubsko area to the main road I/35 between Liberec and Turnov.[1]

The bridge over this road, which had served for 53 years, was demolished and replaced with a new one by the Road and Motorway Directorate because of its poor technical condition. Water was seeping into the structure of the original bridge, the concrete was cracking, the edges of the girders were damaged and ruts had formed on the carriageway.[1] Work began in April 2026, and the demolition took place on the night after Saturday 11 April.[1] During the demolition, the I/35 road was closed in both directions and eleven tracked excavators worked on the demolition.[1] According to Liberecká Drbna, the replacement cost 72 million crowns.[2] The construction also included lengthening the turning lane in the direction from Turnov.[1][2] During the closure, detours ran along local roads and buses used a replacement stop at the railway station.[1] Lorries used the I/35 road and turned around at the exit in Jeřmanice.[1] The new bridge is to open on Thursday 15 October 2026.[1][2]
