The Karlovy Vary Region approved grants totalling 540 thousand korunas for doctors in specialist training and for accredited healthcare facilities that take part in their education. According to Karlovarská Drbna, the grants were approved by the regional council. The support concerns general practice and paediatrics and is meant to attract new specialists to the region.

In general practice, both the doctor and the facility where the doctor is training can each receive ten thousand korunas a month for up to three years. For paediatrics the amount is double and can be drawn for up to four and a half years. The condition is that after obtaining certification the doctor stays in the Karlovy Vary Region for at least two more years and works at least 30 hours a week. According to Drbna, grants can also be awarded retroactively from the beginning of the year in which the accredited facility applies for support.

The programme has run since 2025, applications are submitted continuously until the allocated money is used up, and this year the region has received four more. The region plans to earmark more than 10.5 million korunas in 2025 to 2028 for supporting the education of general practitioners and paediatricians. The regional governor Petr Kubis (ANO) said: "We want young doctors to have good conditions for their professional training and, at the same time, a reason to stay in our region after obtaining certification."
