The organizers of the Metronome Prague music festival announced on 1 October 2026 that the event is ending after ten years and that no further edition will take place.[1][2] The first edition of the festival was held in 2016 at the Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice.[2] Performers at the first edition included Iggy Pop and the bands The Kooks and Foals, and a year later the festival was visited by Sting.[2]*

Among the main reasons, the organizers cited a lack of attendees and long-term strategic partners; the festival had also faced long-term financial difficulties.[1][2][3] Attendance at this year's edition did not reach the level of several tens of thousands of people that is typical for concerts by world stars in Letňany.[1] This year's tenth edition took place in June for the first time at the airport in Letňany and was closed by the British singer Sting.[1] The festival offered dozens of performers across three stages, and among the highlights was a performance by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.[1]

According to the organizers, support from Prague City Hall was neither sufficient nor comprehensive enough for them to keep developing the event.[1] In addition, according to the organizers, the atmosphere fueled by individual complainants had in recent years complicated the evening main concerts as well as the subsequent night program held in indoor venues.[2]

Even this year's partnership with Live Nation Czech Republic did not change the situation.[1]

Organizers Martin Voňka and David Gaydečka are preparing other music events that will not take place over a single weekend but on various dates throughout the year.[1]

Two weeks before its launch, the second edition of the Prague City Festival was also cancelled in 2012 due to financial problems and a lack of sponsorship funds.[1]
