On Sunday 27 September 2026 a small boy was attacked by a dog in the Zlín area. The child suffered serious injuries to the head and face. The incident required the response of the Zlín Region Emergency Medical Service and the Olomouc Region Air Ambulance Service, which flew the injured boy to University Hospital Ostrava.[1][2][3]*
Course of the response
The attack took place on Sunday morning. The rescue response began with a call to the 155 emergency line; according to the rescuers, the callers were under great stress, and the operator had to establish the exact address and the child's condition in order to dispatch help and advise what to do until the crew arrived.[2] Rescue teams from Zlín were sent to the bitten boy. When the crews arrived, the child was conscious and communicating with the rescuers.[2][3]
Medical condition and transport
The boy suffered serious injuries to the head and face.[1][2] Paramedics at the scene treated the injuries, stopped the bleeding, secured intravenous access and administered the necessary medication, including painkillers.[1][2][3] In view of the patient's age and the nature of his injuries, the Olomouc Region Air Ambulance Service was also called to the scene. Veronika Slaměnová, spokeswoman for the Zlín rescuers, said she could not disclose the injured boy's specific age.[2] The helicopter then transported the boy to University Hospital Ostrava for further specialist care.[1][3]
Reaction of the rescuers
After the incident, the rescuers pointed to a basic rule for the safety of children around dogs. According to them, small children should never be left with a dog without adult supervision, even if it is an animal the family knows well, because contact between them always requires adults' attention.[1][2][3]
