Dům družby is a building on the Černá cesta housing estate in Olomouc, built between 1972 and 1974 as a community centre for Soviet soldiers and their families living on the nearby estate [1]. It is also called Družba, and in the press the Družba cultural centre [2].
Original use
The building included a multi-purpose hall with a projection room that also served as a cinema. According to the recollections of witnesses, the building was not normally open to residents of the city [1]. After the Soviet army left, the centre lost its original purpose [1].
Planned redevelopment
The land is owned by Galerie Hradisko, part of the Olomouc development group o'home, which is also the investor. It wants to replace the existing building with new development of housing, shops and services [1][2]. The form of the development on a site of 4,970 square metres is to be decided by an urban-architectural competition organised by the planning office ONplan. The competition is to have two rounds, to be announced at the beginning of December 2026, and its winner is to be known in summer 2027 [2].
Residents can fill in an online questionnaire with a map on the Nová Černá cesta website until 8 November 2026. A neighbourhood meeting is planned in the centre's building for Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 17:00 [1][2].
